Currently, flushing is being conducted North of Roosevelt Road between Mannheim and Gardner Road.
The Westchester Public Works & Fire Department will flush all fire hydrants in the Village to make sure they are in good working order in case of emergencies and to help flush sediment out of the distribution system. Flushing typically reduces sediment by 20 times and increases chlorine residual by ten percent, both important drinking water quality issues.
Signs will be posted in each area before flushing begins. Flushing will be done between 7:30 AM and 3:00 PM on Mondays through Thursdays.
Do NOT do laundry on the day hydrants are flushed in your area. Flushing stirs up rust and may get in your washer. Also, if there is any discoloration in your faucet water, let it run for a few minutes, preferably from the tub spout, and it will clear up. The water is safe to drink.
If you have any questions, please call the Village of Westchester Public Works Department at 708-345-0041 (M-F 7:00-3:30 p.m.).
