Snow Removal Schedule
Not far behind leaves comes SNOW! When it does begin to snow Village crews work long and hard to keep our streets clear and safe. Please assist us by observing the following :
-Place garbage cans and bins behind the curb line-not in the street
-Observe “ NO PARKING” and “SNOW ROUTE” signs
-Do not throw or blow snow back into the cleared streets
The following parking restrictions WILL be enforced:
After a two-inch snowfall and except as otherwise posted, it is unlawful to park any vehicle, or to permit any vehicle to remain parked, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., on odd-numbered sides of the street (south and east sides of streets) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and on even-numbered sides of the street (north and west sides of the streets) on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Odd sides of the street are defined as the south side of east and west streets, and the east side of the north and south streets. Even sides of the street are defined as the north side of east and west streets and the west side of north and south streets.
Help keep Westchester beautiful!
Please remember to put your garbage cans and trash out next to the curb no earlier than 7 p.m. the night before trash day. Please remove your empty cans before 7 p.m. on your trash day. Leaving trash cans out by curb longer than 24 hours is a public safety issue and reduces the curb appeal for all residents in Westchester. Please be considerate of Westchester’s beauty!

Leaf
Bag Dispersal -the Village has implemented new leaf bag program
The Board is implementing a new program for 2009. The Village will provide, free of charge, a packet of five bags which will be dropped off to each house. Residents are encouraged to bag their leaves in brown yard waste bags or put them in cans for pick up on their regular refuse collection day.
For verification of leaf pick up week, look at branch pick-up schedule above. Branch Pickup Schedule (.pdf format) The program will continue as long as weather permits.
Board members are asking for public or private donations to offset the price of the leaf bags and volunteers for distribution of the bags. If you would like to participate in this partnership please contact Trustee Sloan at bsloan@westchester-il.org or call 708/345-0020.
2010 Tree Trimming Program..
The pruning of trees is an important tree maintenance practice. Proper pruning improves tree health, appearance and safety. Within the near future, The Village’s contractor, Sinnott Tree Service, will be pruning the parkway or street right-of-way trees, at your residence. They will specifically prune the trees to:
- Remove broken, dead, diseased and structurally weak limbs
- Remove narrow-angled or V-shaped crotches
- Remove crossing, rubbing or interfering limbs
- Promote a single stemmed leader, when possible
- Promote desired scaffold branches
- Remove sucker growth along the main trunk
- Raise trees by removing lower limbs that will not be part of the main canopy
- Ensure safety of pedestrians and vehicular traffic
- Restore characteristic form of misshapen trees
- Permit sunlight and air circulation through the canopy
