Public Works Secretary

The Village of Westchester is looking to hire an enthusiastic professional individual to join our team as the Public Works Secretary. 

The Public Works Secretary is responsible for receiving people conducting business between the Village Public Works Department and those who need directory information concerning public works policies, or services.  The person serving in this position will also occasionally perform as a cashier for residents making payments for Village services, garbage stickers, and other related payments when needed. Hours will be 7:00 am – 3:30 pm. Health benefits and 457 plans are available. Because it is in the best interest of the taxpayers to receive services at the lowest possible cost, other tasks as from time to time assigned shall be deemed to be included in this position description. Property Maintenance Inspector

The Village of Westchester seeks qualified candidates for the position of Property Maintenance Inspector in the Community Development Department. The person in this position is responsible for the enforcement of Building Codes, Zoning Ordinances, Property Maintenance Codes, Village Ordinances and Sign Regulations, occasional Building inspections, annual sign inspections, serving on interdepartmental teams as assigned, and consulting with the public regarding codes and violations.

Village Accountant

The Accountant is responsible for account reconciliations, preparing journal entries, updating various tracking spreadsheets, as well as updating, documenting and evaluating current procedures. Areas of focus include general accounting such as bank reconciliations, review and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts and assistance with the annual audit. This position will demonstrate an initiative in understanding process flows and internal controls.

The successful candidate will have a strong accounting background with a governmental fund accounting background and an aptitude for financial software, technology and the ability to provide great internal customer service to a diverse work team.

Public Works – Seasonal Laborer (Summer Only)

The Village of Westchester, IL (population 16,718) is seeking an energetic individual to join the public works team as a Seasonal (Summer Only) Laborer. The Seasonal Laborer is a position within the Public Works Department.  The primary responsibilities of this position are the maintenance of Village right-of-way property, operation of light duty Village equipment, and maintenance of underground infrastructure.   The position has specific responsibilities various duties including manual tasks as directed by the supervisor and may include work such as tree maintenance, brush cleanup, sign maintenance, painting, and property maintenance.

The position receives supervision from the Director of Public Works or his designee.  The applicant should have working knowledge of Public Works infrastructure maintenance.  Work activity includes frequent lifting of heavy objects of at least 50 pounds and the ability to drive and operate light duty equipment.  The position is primarily an outdoor position that requires working in all types of weather situations.  Much of the work related to the position of is performed outside in the public right-of-way.  

The position may require the employee to work overtime hours, at the sole discretion of the Director. The job involves the ability to competently perform multiple duties and tasks.   Employees in these positions must be willing to work with residents, elected officials, and various contractors.   As such, they must at times explain what they are doing and must have positive interpersonal skills.

The starting wage for this hourly position is $15.00/hr. A valid Illinois Drivers License is required.  Position is for the summer months of May through August only. Interested candidates should send a completed application form (available on-line) to:
