The Village of Westchester, Illinois (16,900 population) has a total area of 3.69 square miles. Westchester is conveniently located within minutes of the I-290, I-294 and I-88 expressways. It is located at the Western edge of Cook County.

Village Government

The Village of Westchester operates under the Village Board - Manager form of Government. It is a Non Home Rule community. The Village President, six Village Trustees and the Village Clerk who are elected at large. Departments include Administration & Finance, Building, Fire, Police and Public Works, with over 80 full-time employees with an annual budget totaling $18.8M.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Village Board appoints the Village Manager by majority vote for an indefinite term, selected solely on the basis of executive and administrative qualifications. The Village Manager is the chief administrative officer of the Village, responsible for implementation of Village Board policies and goals and managing all services provided to Village residents. Village department directors report to the Village Manager and are charged with directing the activities of their respective departments.

Qualifications

Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in public policy, public administration, planning, business or related field. A Master’s degree in public administration, political science, business administration or a related field is preferred plus a minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible municipal executive level experience.

Candidates must possess proven managerial and interpersonal skills and possess strong financial management abilities, including financial forecasting, revenue enhancement, capital improvement programing, and budget development and control.

Be skilled in working with elected officials as a group and in a system of committees, boards and commissions. Additionally, have strong communication skills and the ability to work with elected board members.

Starting salary is market competitive and is dependent upon qualifications. Westchester Accepting Applications for Police Officer Eligibility List


The Westchester Police Department is currently accepting applications for the position of police officer. Application and required documentation due by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019. Police Officer Minimum Requirements:

  • $25.00 non-refundable application processing fee;
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status;
  • High School Diploma or GED AND one of the following;
  • Successful completion of at least 30 semester hours (or their equivalent in quarter or trimester hours) of credit from an accredited college or university (copy of official transcripts due at deadline)

    OR

    • Successful completion of at least 30 semester hours (or their equivalent in quarter or trimester hours) of credit from an accredited college or university (copy of official transcripts due at deadline)

      OR

  • At least 12 months of active service in any branch of the United States military (Army, Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard) with an honorable discharge or medical discharge;

  • 21 to under 35 years of age as of June 15, 2019 unless otherwise exempt by Statute;
